Re: Ultra-High Definition...Coming in 2017
dear god, i haven't even really switched to HD yet. i have the TV at least though......but honestly, having seen a few movies in HD and SD, I hate to say, but HD doesn't thrill me anymore than SD. doesn't really matter to me what something looks like if it doesn't entertain me
that is some retarded high res though

You telling me you don't see the difference, and I mean a great difference, from SD to HD on an LCD, PLasma or DLP? When I watch NFL and/or certain broadcast movies on my local channels which send free HD signals I switch it from antenna 2 (satellite) over to antenna 1 which of course picks up all my local HD channels. Dam the difference is stunning. I stiil to this day don't understand why aren't ALL channels on satellite and cable broadcast in HD? Also StLouis1, you have to take into account that SD broadcast, although digital can look crappy on a HD compatable TV''s, especially larger screens. They are designed just for that....HD.
I detest watching anything is SD anymore but I have no choice until these people get it right.
IMO, SD, 480i should be eliminated period. 480P-720P DVD is decent but event that is not as good as HD.,.....or blu-Ray.

... and yet, all I can think of is how much of a PITA it's going to be to have to wire up two dozen speakers all at once, in the same room. They'd better include a full 1000 foot roll of speaker wire with those things.
Can't wait to see how much the folks over at Pear Cable are going to charge for 22.2 channel audio cabling D:

Oh BTW: as far as Plasma goes, phooey. They are getting pushed out. I say that was the biggest flop in television history. Just a big hype. High Price for low life expenctancy technology.
Just when i get settled in with DLP and LCD....here comes LED. Gosh I want one, or two. I wish I could afford a theater room.

Re: Ultra-High Definition...Coming in 2017
I'm pretty sure we'll be moving to ultra widescreen before we go that high in resolution. I would totally prefer a half sphere curved continuous monitor than a higher res one. I'm guessing 9600x1200 or something.

Re: Ultra-High Definition...Coming in 2017
Yea I saw this a few months back in a tech magazine over here called T3. It's impressive as it was as High definition special edition. At the end of 2008 Sky and a 3D TV were hooked up with test equipment to test the infrastructure of the current Sky broadcast system to send out full 3D TV. It worked fine! So the infrastructure is there, just needs the TV in households and then the new recording gear and encoding equipment.
Also Hologram TV is on the horizon too. They don't think it will be too long realistically in years (15-20) until presenters are walking around our living rooms in full 3D... COOL! Imagine film battles taking place around you like lord of the rings lol
I'll see if I can find some more bits of info from it. Also LED TV was old before it launched lol! Laser TV has been around ages now they are just perfecting manufacturing techniques now. And most likely cashing inn on LED as a gap filler Laser will last indefinitely compared too other technologies and the colour spectrums it can produce are far superior.
Put it this way... I dont think BluRay will be large enough to hold teh data needed thats for sure lol i think its 40-50gb per disk? Also i'm getting a feeling i heard that they have managed either multi layer or another stacking system to increase the density...
Hologram disks were invented utterly years ago by Lucent technologies i remmber reaing in T3 like 6+ years ago. They managed to cram 300gb back then on a single cd. Why the hell is that tech taking so long to come out lol!

Re: Ultra-High Definition...Coming in 2017
Look, just get over with this HD bullsh*t and give me holographic display
Your eye could only see too much as digesting pixels packed into whatever display you looking it. A UHD resolution on a display <30 inch is pointless.
We need third-dimension in display. For pc usage, a full-hd resolution is ought to be enough, what you need is surround display
