Default Intel is in trouble with the law again.

putting aside whether or not you're a fan or not. in a business stand point, this sure looks interesting.

"A key part of Intel's strategy for years has been to help PC companies market their products. Under the "Intel Inside" programs, PC makers you touted their use of an Intel processor or a combination of Intel technologies in their machines, would have their advertising costs partially subsidized by Intel. This arrangement has been described by a PC company executive cited in AMD's lawsuit as "the cocaine of the industry," meaning that PC companies relied heavily upon these payments in their business plans."

you can read more about it here. http://www.businessweek.com/the_thre...cuomo_fil.html a lawsuit filed by the united state attorney general.

i do seem to remember back in the days between 2000~2003 when Athlon particularly the Barton was gaining quite a bit of spotlight. it was nearly impossible to find and purchase a PC with AMD's processor inside from any of the retail manufactures, aside from a small selection from HP. one had to purchase the parts and build from ground up. it wasn't untill late in the 2004 after countless petitions to Dell, the manufacture started selling AMD processor as part, not within a PC.

With AMD's new fab (well...Global Foundries) under construction a few miles from my house, I'm sure NY State wants to do whatever it can to protect AMD's interests. I'm surprised it took this long.

This has been common practice for intel for years... Surprised it's just now getting out.

actually it has been brought out way sooner in Asian countries like Japan and EU. But only recently taken into action in the united states. could very well be the reason avid stated.

With Intel back in control of the performance crown, history would dictate that innovation will slow down. This appears to be the case with the upcoming 32nm shrink. Typically we'd get larger cache sizes to help boost performance along with higher clock speeds. From what I've read, there will be no increase in cache sizes. Smaller die = cheaper to produce = higher profit margins. Of course, you will be able to buy a 6-Core beast, but at such a price premium Intel still makes a good amount.

I've got my fingers crossed that AMD's bulldozer core brings the pain to Intel just as the Athlon 64 did.

Intel's is not the only one doing this though.

AMD, after their initial success with AMD K8, slacked a lot until Intel came and bite them in the arse.

And AMD advantage over Intel is pricing, however, i did not see that materialize now. Phenom 2 pricing is a joke, add few bucks and i could get a Core i5.......... (Phenom II system is quite expensive here, too much for my liking)

AMD already have native 6-core opteron processor (Istanbul). They could have made that for AM3 socket and have advantage over Intel - now, but AMD is too occupied with server markets to been bothered by consumer ones

That will nearly take 38% off of the ATI Debt remaining of 3.4 Billion...

That has got to be a slap in the face for Intel...Let's hope AMD puts it to good use.
