Favorite Shmup
I'm a shmupaholic and I'd have to say my favorites are:
Radiant Silvergun: Arcade/ Saturn
Ikaruga: Arcade/ Dreamcast/ Gamecube
Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate: Arcade/ Dreamcast
Anyone tried Gradius V yet? I'm dying to play it.

OMG, I now consider you the luckiest person in the world. That game's like $150 on Ebay and stuff. I have to emulate it
I heard Soukyugurentai / Terra Diver is the second best shmup on Saturn. Maybe you should check it out.

How can you guys forget Einhander! that shmup had a cool unique weapon system that I have yet to see be beaten. Axelay and Super Aleste for the SNES are also classics. For the Saturn it would have to be Radiant Silver Gun(of course) and Terra Diver, then Dodonpachi...and of course the original R-Type,

I haven't tried Einhander yet, but I heard it's the best shmup on the Playstation along with Gradius Gaiden which is fun, but way too hard. Dodonpachi is really fun too. It's got some crazy bass playin. I've been trying to beat Castle of Shikigami 2 (Dreamcast), but it get's crazy hard even on very easy.
I beat Radiant Silvergun on the emulator, but right when I beat the boss, the emulator crashed That made me so sad.

I got a Saturn about a month ago for $25 and I got a mod chip for it. It was my first console mod and it didn't work at first, which pissed the hell outta me, but I accidentally dropped the Saturn lid on the mod chip and it started working. How ironic. Whenever I try to handle things carefully they die and when I screw up on accident I get rewarded *wish there was a more sarcastic looking "rolleyes" smiley* Anyways, I finally beat Radiant Silvergun and I must say, it's completely worthy of all the hype. The game is brilliant just on the merits of the gameplay, but combined with the story it's a masterpiece. Here's a translation.

heheh It's short for shoot-em-up. They used to fill arcades in the 80s / early 90s frenzy when consoles really hadn't made an impact. They're usually a vertically scrolling game in which you control a character, usually a space ship, against impossible odds of ememies and bullets. Some notable series' in the shmup genre are:
Galaxian & Galaga
Gradius
R-Type
Raiden
Aerofighters / Sonic Wings
Layer Section (RayForce / RayStorm / RayCrisis)
Thunderforce
Darius
Parodius
Aleste
Strikers 19xx
